About Us
Together, we are building a culture of giving back by Africans, for Africa.
AfricaGiving is a platform that connects everyday givers to nonprofit organisations working to create positive change across Africa. It provides a trusted space for individuals, businesses, and communities to support local causes and contribute to sustainable development on the continent.
AfricaGiving is an initiative of the SIVIO Institute, an independent organisation dedicated to strengthening citizen agency and advancing inclusive, evidence-based development. Through AfricaGiving, SIVIO Institute promotes local philanthropy and greater accountability by empowering African nonprofits to tell their stories, raise resources, and build lasting relationships with their supporters.

“The future of Africa will be shaped by those who invest in its people today.”
Welcome to
AfricaGiving

Founder of AfricaGiving
Tendai Murisa
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to AfricaGiving a platform born out of a simple yet profound belief: Africa’s future will be shaped by Africans, through our own actions, resources, and solidarity.
AfricaGiving is more than a digital tool. It is a commitment to amplify the incredible work being done by African non-profits, some visible, many hidden, who are quietly transforming communities across our continent. From remote villages to bustling cities, these organisations are building futures, restoring dignity, and advancing justice. What they often lack is visibility and access to consistent support. Our aim is to change that.
AfricaGiving raises the visibility of these African-led initiatives and connects them with potential givers, individuals across the continent and in the diaspora who are eager to contribute to Africa’s transformation. Whether you are passionate about education, healthcare, disadvantaged women and girls, or youth empowerment, this platform allows you to discover, review, and support credible causes that resonate with your values.
We recognise that many organisations doing meaningful work have historically been excluded from traditional funding networks simply because they are smaller, newer, or less connected. AfricaGiving exists to level that playing field, and in doing so, to democratise giving itself.
Our dream is one we know many of you share: a continent where every African lives a life of dignity, equity, and opportunity. And we believe that dream is achievable—when each of us plays our part.
Thank you for visiting AfricaGiving. I invite you to explore, connect, and give. Together, we can build the Africa we all imagine.
Warm regards,
Dr Tendai Murisa

Backing Real Impact.
At AfricaGiving, we are dedicated to showcasing only credible, transparent, and accountable organisations. Every organisation featured on our platform must meet strict eligibility criteria to ensure they are legally registered and operate as non-profits within their respective countries.
Our thorough verification process is designed to build confidence among donors, partners, and the communities these organisations serve. Before being listed, every organisation featured on our platform is assessed and given a Compliance Score out of 5, based on how well they meet key governance, transparency, and accountability standards. Each criteria met gives the organisation a score of 1.
Once approved, organisations are added to our platform, where users can easily explore and support causes that align with their values and interests.

Compliance Score & Assessment Criteria
Before being listed on AfricaGiving, organisations must review and digitally sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SIVIO Institute, the parent organisation overseeing the platform. This MOU serves as a formal agreement outlining the terms and conditions of use, ensuring clarity on roles, responsibilities, and expectations for all listed entities.
To streamline the onboarding process, organisations must sign the MOU digitally before their profiles become active. This ensures efficiency, security, and ease of access while reinforcing a commitment to AfricaGiving's principles.
Organisations undergo a structured evaluation based on five key areas. Each criterion contributes to an overall compliance score, which reflects the organisation's level of transparency and reliability.
Reporting Practices
Organisations must consistently communicate their activities, impact, and use of funds. This includes project reports, impact statements, and regular updates shared with donors and stakeholders.
Accessibility
To be visible and accessible to donors, organisations must have a functional website, email, or social media presence to engage with supporters, and clear channels for communication and transparency.
Governance Structures
Strong governance ensures responsible oversight and ethical decision-making. Organisations must have:
- A functioning board of directors or advisory group overseeing operations
- Established leadership structures that support accountability and strategic direction
Legal Registration
Organisations must provide proof of official registration with the relevant authorities in their country.
Financial Transparency
Organisations are assessed on their ability to share: Audited financial statements, Annual reports, Basic financial disclosures detailing income sources and expenditures.
